This crisp combination of navy and orange is front and center at Helena's this month. Orange is a hugely present color in spring apparel from nearly all of our designers. Dianne (who is always on top of trends) brought in the newest issue of Real Simple magazine, which featured orange in all its versatile beauty. Click here to see it stylishly paired with navy, then pink, and then violet. Smashing! P.S. The jacket and top above are from Tulle, both in-store now!

Love the Garance Dore blog.
Garance Dore is a French illustrator and photographer who writes a beautiful blog about design, art, fashion and all other things she loves. She will, for instance, take a photograph of a well-dressed woman in Chelsea just because that woman is wearing a scarf that catches her eye. I love the simplicity of her blog, and the obvious joy she gets from people-watching on the streets of Paris and New York. Click here to explore her world.

WBUR's "On Point" features Diane von Furstenberg.
Yesterday, iconic fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg was interviewed on the local WBUR program "On Point." Host Tom Ashbrook was audibly star-struck (and more than a little bit charmed) by her artsy nature and strong message of female empowerment. DvF tells women to wear clothes that are comfortable, stylish and make them feel strong, a view we, at Helena's, share with her. My favorite quote from her interview on NPR is, "I want to drive my own bus." To hear the interview, click here. If you want more, click here to read a 2008 interview with The Huffington Post.
Helena's CLOSED today at 1 PM.

The "Mystic" flat from Nicole: My New Favorite Shoe at Sadies!
I love this shoe. I just picked up a pair at Sadie's. Navy blue suede, with a little gunmetal bedazzlement, with a thin wafer heel. And spring fashion is FULL of navy shades. Go see Betsy now and see this shoe and other great styles. The Mystic flat is $85. What a deal!

Tulle brings spring dreams...
I know it's freezing. But someday, in the months to come, you will be strolling down Mass Ave in a pretty spring jacket and a colorful woven top, just like these. You will be sipping a latte from Quebrada and heading down to Sadie's to get a new pair of strappy sandals. This dream gets me thru days when the thermometer reads 5 degrees. These pretty pieces just arrived from Tulle. The blouse has already sold out on their website! It's on our racks now!

Ruby-Rust Nail Color for Winter...and perhaps into Spring.
The newest nail trend (spotted on every woman I saw at the NY shows last week) is a rusty-red...with shimmer. And it looks pretty fantastic especially on short nails. If this warm nail color transitions into spring, it will look smashing with all the cream, navy, and olive green pieces that dominate the spring collections.
The Elephant's Trunk: Fab New Children's Bookstore in Neighboring Lexington.
If you haul your sweet self another 15 minutes on Mass Ave, you'll find yourself in Ye Olde Lexington Center. Get yourself a delicious cup of coffee at Ride Studio Cafe. Then, go to The Elephant's Trunk bookstore which just opened last month. The staff is smart and delightfully chatty (like our own Helena's staffers), the book selection is edited down to perfection, and the space is neat and shop-able. The best section? A small collection of the owner and staff's favorite adult reads. I picked up a copy of Just Kids by Patti Smith. Fantastic!

Helena's Wardrobe Essentials: Our Three Best Layering Pieces.
The Coobie Bra. The Coobie has a tremendous following. Comfortable, easy to wear and in a multitude of colors, our customers buy them four at a time. This bra is a revolution in seamless shapeware. It's truly supportive with adjustable straps and removable padding. We have the Coobie scoopneck and lace versions in loads of colors.
Last Tango Seamless Tank. You can never have too many Last Tango tanks. Seriously. These pieces have a loyal following with customers coming in to collect every new color that comes in. Why? Because they are FABULOUS. Wear then under any top with a too-low neckline. Tuck them in to low-rise jeans to make sure you are adequately "covered". These seamless tanks are long and endlessly comfortably, and have a wee bit of compression smoothing going on. We always have a beautiful collection of seasonal colors.
Nally & Millie Layering Tees. These layering tees have been a Helena's staple season after season. They have a super-soft feel and look great under everything from jackets to sweaters to vests. We carry the long sleeved versions in fall and winter and bring in the 3/4 sleeve tees for the spring. This shirt is by far one of the most versatile layering pieces in the store.
