Navy & Orange: A Lovely Pair.

This crisp combination of navy and orange is front and center at Helena's this month. Orange is a hugely present color in spring apparel from nearly all of our designers. Dianne (who is always on top of trends) brought in the newest issue of Real Simple magazine, which featured orange in all its versatile beauty. New Knits Arrive from Tulle.

Yesterday brought beautiful knits from Tulle. This bell-sleeve yoke dress in khaki is divine. Also new: a short-sleeved crochet dress in black, and a gorgeous antique white crocheted cardigan.

Garance Dore is a French illustrator and photographer who writes a beautiful blog about design, art, fashion and all other things she loves. She will, for instance, take a photograph of a well-dressed woman in Chelsea just because that woman is wearing a scarf that catches her eye. I love the simplicity of her blog, and the obvious joy she gets from people-watching on the streets of Paris and New York. Click here to explore her world.

WBUR's "On Point" features Diane von Furstenberg.

Yesterday, iconic fashion designer Diane von Furstenberg was interviewed on the local WBUR program "On Point." Host Tom Ashbrook was audibly star-struck (and more than a little bit charmed) by her artsy nature and strong message of female empowerment. DvF tells women to wear clothes that are comfortable, stylish and make them feel strong, a view we, at Helena's, share with her. Origins Jewelry has expanded their designs for spring, and they are bursting with luminescent color. The two pendants necklaces above are just a few examples. We have a new delivery of necklaces and earrings. So pretty.

This knit pencil skirt from Only Hearts has a smooth silhouette and a super comfy fit. The double-knit fabric and high waist pull everything in, if you know what I'm sayin'. We currently have it in our display window on Franklin Street, paired with a cross-over Velvet top.

Ruby-Rust Nail Color for Winter...and perhaps into Spring.

The newest nail trend (spotted on every woman I saw at the NY shows last week) is a rusty-red...with shimmer. And it looks pretty fantastic especially on short nails. If this warm nail color transitions into spring, it will look smashing with all the cream, navy, and olive green pieces that dominate the spring collections.

If you haul your sweet self another 15 minutes on Mass Ave, you'll find yourself in Ye Olde Lexington Center. Get yourself a delicious cup of coffee at Ride Studio Cafe. Then, go to The Elephant's Trunk bookstore which just opened last month. The staff is smart and delightfully chatty (like our own Helena's staffers), the book selection is edited down to perfection, and the space is neat and shop-able. The best section? A small collection of the owner and staff's favorite adult reads. I picked up a copy of Just Kids by Patti Smith. Fantastic!
